Between Science and Teaching
My Professional Journey

"I am Professor Alfonso Baldi, an anatomic pathologist with over 20 years of experience in the field of histopathological research and diagnosis. My career has been dedicated to advancing medical sciences through research, academic teaching, and collaboration with national and international institutions."

WhO I Am
Professional Training

I earned my Medical Degree with honors in 1992 and subsequently completed my Residency in Anatomic Pathology with honors in 1996.
From 2001 to 2024, I held the position of University Researcher and later Associate Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Campania “L. Vanvitelli.”

I am currently Associate Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the Department of Life, Health and Health Professions Sciences of Link Campus University, Rome. Additionally, I hold the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor in Anatomic Pathology MED/08 (Call 2018).

I am the author of numerous international scientific patents, and my research activity has been recognized with awards and research fellowships. Over the years, I have managed several research grants. My professional and research activity has always been characterized by a focus on technological innovation, with particular attention to the translation of research results into clinical and diagnostic applications.

SIGNIFICANT SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS

During my research activity abroad at Temple University and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, I made a fundamental contribution to the identification of the tumor suppressor gene Rb2/p130, its chromosomal localization in humans, and the characterization of its genomic structure. Additionally, I produced innovative observations on the role of cell cycle regulatory proteins in tumor progression.

In collaboration with Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and the Istituto dei Tumori of Rome, I characterized the molecular pathways involved in melanoma progression, with a particular focus on the serine protease HtrA1. Moreover, my studies generated original data on the role of apoptosis in post-infarction ventricular remodeling.

At the University of Campania “L. Vanvitelli”, I conducted pioneering studies on the effects of electrochemotherapy in animal models. These investigations led to the establishment of an industrial spin-off, resulting in the development of the Onkodisruptor® electroporator, an advanced device for veterinary electrochemotherapy and other technological applications, such as DNA vaccination and nanovesicle loading.
